Food at Handa

Handa won a Taste of Scotland award in 1995. In 2003 Handa was also nominated for the award "Dedication to the use of Local Seasonal Produce".

We serve a menu Breakfast in the dining room on the ground floor. You can choose traditional but we specialise in alternatives. If you really cannot face a cooked breakfast you may have a light meal and we will give you a packed lunch instead.

Evening Meal

In the past we provided evening meals but do not want to encourage them any more (hence the prohibitive price!). In Stornoway (20 minutes’ drive) there are a good variety of restaurants and takeaways. However, if after a long day touring round the island you do not feel like going out again you are welcome to share limited cooking facilities in the utility on the ground floor to prepare a light evening meal.

It is now equipped as a mini kitchen with a fridge/freezer, microwave, two ring electric hob, lean grilling machine, toaster, cooking and serving dishes, utensils etc. You can relax at home and enjoy your meal and a lovely view in either the front porch or the dining room.

Usually the first question asked is “Do you have anyone else staying?” We may have but we make all the public rooms available to our guests to maximise privacy should more than one group be in at the same time. However we ask our guests to share the one table for breakfast so that everyone can enjoy the view from the window.
